Recruitment June-July 2023

Two new centres are being initialised, respectively located in Maputo, Mozambique (Prof Albertino Damasceno) and La Plata, Argentina (Prof Martin Salazar).  The centre in Warsaw, Poland (Prof Andrzej Januszewicz) is going through a staff change, which delayed the start-up.  The centre in Kraków (Prof Katarzyna Stolarz-Skrzypek) received 50 additional BP telemonitoring devices from APPREMED, as these investigators are extremely well organised and have the intention to recruit and randomise 100 instead of 50 patients.

The progress in recruitment over from 15 June until 1 August is summarised in the Table.  The numbers do not include any recruitment achieved in August 2023.  The coordinating team acknowledges that for some centres recruitment rates might be under-estimated.

Values in the table represent the number of patients with item available or number of devices available for BP telemonitoring.  Investigators received the number of devices as they requested.

Items
SCR=screened; Rx=randomised;
FU= at least 1 follow-up form; SRV=QoL and WHO questionnaire completed;
PRE=pre-randomisation forms;
DEV=devices available at each centre;
PTR=potential for recruitment;
!!=activation of patient recruitment highly recommended.

Points requiring attention

  1. Some patients are not within the expected age range from 55 to 75 years.  These patients can be followed further.  However, future recruitment should stick as much as possible to the patient entry criteria as listed in the protocol.

  2. There is underperformance in collecting survey data.  Please, note that survey data have to be submitted by the patients, using the smartphone application.  These questionnaires are due around randomisation and thereafter at least at 6-month intervals.  Filling out the survey more frequently is optional, but very welcome!
